MySQL Upgrade

The following message was sent to (mysql.iu.edu) account owners on Monday, October 26, 2009.

Colleague,

The upgrade is complete. MySQL 5 is now in production as mysql.iu.edu. You may wish to check your database applications to verify that all is well.

Important: the contents of Callisto, the MySQL 3 test server, were not copied over as part of this migration. If you had test databases which existed only on Callisto and you wish to retain this data, please contact us immediately with the name of the account and database that you wish to have copied over to the MySQL 5 test server. This content will not be retrievable after November 6th.

Please note this migration means that the MySQL accounts are on new machines. Triton and Callisto have been retired and are replaced by Janus (mysql.iu.edu) and Europa (mysql-test.iu.edu) respectively.

As part of the upgrade and migration process, all accounts were provided test accounts which were used to test the upgrade prior to the move into production. These test accounts will remain available to you for future development or testing needs. To use your test account, point your applications to the hostname 'mysql-test.iu.edu'. The 'mysqltemp.uits.iu.edu' hostname that had been in use prior to moving MySQL 5 into production will be retired and should no longer be used. Production applications should continue to use mysql.iu.edu as the hostname.

If you encounter a problem while testing your "new" production mysql.iu.edu database service, please contact IU Webmaster.

IU Webmaster
