MySQL Upgrade
The following message was sent to (mysql.iu.edu) account owners on Monday, September 28, 2009.
Colleagues,
We contact you today to provide MySQL migration information. As you are probably aware, it was recently announced that the version of MySQL currently available on the central server will upgrade to MySQL 5.0 in October.
Upgrading the central MySQL service to MySQL 5.0 is essentially a three step project. As the service provider, step two is where you are tasked. You must test your current applications in the MySQL5 environment before October 19th.
Those steps are:
- UITS copy current MySQL accounts to a MySQL5 test area. Completed 9/20/09.
- User testing - Now through October 19th.
- October 25th - All sites will be copied to the new 5.0 production area.
Note: After the migration and the upgrade are complete, all versions below MySQL5 will be retired from the server.
Look to the IU Webmaster MySQL migration site for an outline of steps involved to testing, such as copy any web applications currently using MySQL, change the connection string pointer to test MySQL5.
Regards,
IU Webmaster
